About

Michael Obranovich

I have been a studio potter since 1973. I have taught pottery at the college and high school levels, and have conducted numerous workshops across the US and Canada.  My work has been exhibited in galleries from New York to Alaska, especially in my home state of Texas.

I have designed dinnerware and cookware for The Hard Rock Cafe, Macy's, One True Vine Winery, and Michael Chiarello's premier Napa-based Bottega restaurant.

I also design and produce hand-thrown sinks, lamp bases and one of a kind art pieces, some in combination with mixed-media basket handles done by my artist wife, Claudia Obranovich.

Care

Due to the high temperature of my stoneware, all pieces are FOR OVEN USE ONLY.  THEY ARE NOT TO BE USED DIRECTLY ON STOVETOP ELEMENTS -- GAS OR ELECTRIC.  Pieces should be placed in a cool oven and brought up to temperature.

My serving pieces retain warmth from the oven due to the heat retention properties of the clay.  Pieces used for serving may also be heated with hot water from the sink or heated in a warm oven prior to placing food in them.  If warm food is placed on a cool ceramic piece, the heat will be drawn out of the food as ceramic ware is a conductor of heat energy.
